Demolition in downtown Meridian today caused a power outage after a wall fell into the road causing a domino effect on the power poles.

“They’ve been in the phases of tearing the building down. During the process part of the front want fell, when trying to remove that fell into the street. It’s done some damage to above-ground utilities. We’re in the process of waiting on the power company to get here and access their portion of it. Once that’s done and we’ve dealt with the issues, the contractor on site will clear what little debris is in the street, we just ask people to be patient and avoid this area for the rest of maybe half the day. ", said Public Safety Director Doug Stephens
Power was restored to the area shortly after at noon today. There were no injuries reported. Public safety is asking that residents avoid 23rd and Front St. until the end of the day
