Doctors push for flu vaccinations during flu season.

jroby5

Meridian, MS - Shelby White is a Medical Doctor of EC HealthNet in Meridian and encourages people to get the flu vaccine.

“We have a lot of people have a lot of different theories that doesn’t work, but CDC says it’s pretty fairly affective of preventing the flu. We should be doing the flu vaccines because it will prevent, or hopefully prevent the secondary affects.”

Dr. White expressed that although those vaccinated can still get the flu, the vaccine is an important measure to fight the sequela. “The flu doesn’t always kill people; it can. But what kills people is what comes after, which is a flu that develops a couple weeks later.”

As this is the time of year when families tend to gather together, Dr. White informs the community to be cautious. “The common cold, the flu, all these viruses we start transmitting them to one other because we are getting together. Not telling you to not get together, I’m just telling you to be prepared, wash your hands, wash your hands, try to cover your cough.”

While it is the recipient's choice to get vaccinated, Doctors do encourage the use of vaccines, during the constant change of hot and cold weather, and the change in season.
