From dollars, quarters and even pennies, the Salvation Army is wrapping up it’s yearly red kettle campaign. The organization began the campaign the last weekend in November due to COVID-19 and are now finalizing their funds. The army set a goal of $130,000 and thanks to donors, they are coming close to reaching their goal.
“We’re counting yesterday’s kettles today and through Tuesday, I have a total of $90,330.14. That’s 20% above what we did last year, but the need is four or five times greater. So even though we’re ahead from last year, the need exceeds the amount of money that we’re receiving.”
The process in counting takes time. Lieutenant Robb says multiple people lend a helping hand to make sure nothing is missed.

“We have four to five people in the room at a time always counting. We always triple and verify that we make sure we have everything correctly, so we count each kettle separately and then we count the total and we compare the numbers and if we’re off anywhere, we go back and count again.”
Although red kettles are wrapping up today, donating online is open until the end of the year as well as tax write-offs for your donation.
“When you donate to a charity, you can get a tax write-off for that. We’re still receiving checks until the end of the year and you can donate online through the end of the year as well.”
Lieutenant Robb says these funds will go to projects for Christmas as well as throughout the year. To donate, visit here.
