Decatur, MS - As many veterans and their families attended East Central Community College’s annual Military Appreciation Breakfast, they had an opportunity to hear from keynote speaker, Brigadier General Billy Pierce, about remembering the sacrifice of veterans. “They had a backbone, they had a plan, they had a mission. The mission was to enter any battle to win.
During his speech, Brigadier Pierce expressed how many people today may not understand the importance of Veterans Day. “We enjoy the freedom in America, the luxuries; we have so many freedoms, we can do anything we want. The greatest nation on the face of the earth. I fear that the young may not understand why we are free.”
He also expressed his gratitude to be able to speak to Veterans and their families. “It’s an Honor, it’s a Privilege, it’s another freedom we have here in America for me to get up here, stand, and speak and say what's on my mind, and on my heart.”
As the event ended with a standing ovation thanking the veterans for their service, Kyle Flessner shared what honoring the veterans means to him. “Honestly, one day doesn’t do enough for them, they protect everything that we have here, and so being able to have a day to really recognize them is one of the most important things.”
East Central Community College says they are honored to continue to serve and honor veterans and their families.
