The East Mississippi Community College has been awarded a $5,000 grant by the Women’s Foundation of Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi. Half of the grant will be used for a drive-thru food pantry for mothers who live in Kemper County.
“They come in, we get their names to make sure that they did complete the survey and we put the items in their trunk and that’s with limited contact and limited interaction," says Kimberly Rush, academic advisor and licensed practical counselor. We’re just making sure that we’re keeping social distancing and keeping in mind what’s going on with COVID-19.”

The pantry will be Friday, June 5th, from 8AM to 2PM and Saturday, June 6th, from 8AM to noon. Mothers in Kemper County can register online. Those who have applied will be served first.
“Everyone will get a case of dasani water, bread, easy macaroni, fruit, ravioli, granola bars, fruit snacks, ritz crackers, noodles, vegetables straws, fruit loops, pop tarts, toilet tissue, paper towels and peanut butter and jelly.”
With the help of several food vendors, the pantry hopes to help at least 50 mothers in the county. Rush also says they will have volunteers during the pantry and hope to have a good turn out.
