The East Mississippi Realtors presented a check in the amount of $2,500 to the Mississippians United to End Homelessness. This is a nonprofit that has purchased four of five houses on the 1900th block of Martin Luther King Drive.
Funds for this grant come from 5k runs East Mississippi Realtors held back in 2017 and 2018 to address affordable housing issues.
The realtors look forward to partnering and supporting this effort financially and volunteer labor to restore these homes.
“People’s lives get a lot brighter and the community gets a lot brighter when people are able to afford to buy homes so this is our effort to make more affordable houses come to the market,” says President of East Mississippi Realtors Jerome Kittrell. “I think anytime a person buys a home, they have the pride of home ownership. When you can change four of five houses in a block, you can really impact a neighborhood and an entire community so we think this whole neighborhood can be revitalized.”
These homes are expected to be restored between three to six months.
