East Mississippi has plans underway for the construction of a veterans memorial park.

Today I visited the future location for the Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Park. I had the pleasure of speaking with retired veteran and board member of the project Danny smith who provided us with details on what’s to come.

“Behind us is where our F-four is going to be located. Once we get it from the Bone Yard and Tucson. Hopefully, that will be within the next few months.”

The foundation's layout plans for the veteran’s memorial park are all planned out which will include a remembrance wall and a history walk of American wars.

“We have the Armed Services Plaza, which will have sections about each one of the different branches of service.”

Board member and retired veteran explains what made them want to build a veteran’s memorial park here in meridian?

“Well, Meridian has been a military city, how they treat the veterans well and to sort of give back. But more so. It's an educational aspect for the children.”

Once the project is completed smith tells us what the memorial will symbolize for the city of Meridian.

“It's one of the few places in the state that would have a military part that shows the contributions to the military to not only the nation but to the city in Lauderdale County altogether.”

The foundation asks for support from the community to help establish the east Mississippi veterans memorial park, a lasting tribute to area service members .for more information on how to help contact the East Mississippi Veteran’s Foundation. As of now, there is no completion date of the project.
