Meridian, MS - People in Meridian are still encouraged to use caution when being outside, as a heat advisory is expected to carry over into tomorrow night.
The excessive heat continues to cause temperatures to rise, causing many people to try and find ways to beat the heat. CEO of Mississippi Power, Anthony Wilson has noticed the heat to cause an increase in power usage. “This stretch of Days has been pretty incredible; I think we’re on day 40 or 41 of setting some pretty extreme heat levels. We have set a peak for this year like 27 times, so that tells you on each excessive day, it gets a little higher, and higher, and higher, but it is not above what it has been all time.”
So, what can be done to help avoid the heat? "In your homes, in your businesses, if you have blinds or curtains, make sure that they’re closed because that adds a level of insulation to the glass. Air conditioning units we always advise 78, that’s a little warm for some people, but if you drop it, don’t drop it more than two or three degrees, because it really begins to get to a point where the unit can’t catch up so it will run nonstop.”
Companies like Mississippi power encourage residents to use caution when having to be in the heat.
