Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Oct. 19-23

We are now entering our fall temperatures that could lead possibly into severe weather. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is partnering with the National Weather Service in highlighting different types of severe weather throughout the week.

“They’re just putting out pointers to us that we can put out to the public. This week is getting everybody prepared for not just the ice, the snow, tornadoes, severe weather, watches and warnings," said Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency Director Odie Barrett.

Since we’re entering into the winter months, it is important to look out for ice and possible snow. Drivers are asked to watch their speed when driving on a road covered in ice. As cold temperatures begin to draw near, Barrett advises residents to make sure they are working properly.

“Make sure that works now before it turns extremely cold. It’s always a good idea to make sure we have some type of heating source that does not require electricity during our winter time because the ice and storms can bring down power lines.”
