Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Week.

jroby5

Meridian, MS - As we have entered the second week of the Fall Season the change in season and temperatures still gives way to the threat of severe weather. Lauderdale Emergency Management Director Odie Barrett expresses the importance of planning ahead of an emergency.

“We’ve got to prepare for any type of bad weather that we have. Knowing a plan and having a plan is key to anything that we have as far as an emergency. Knowing where we’re going to go if our home is affected, does our family know where we’re going to be, making sure that we have our medications, if we take medications on a daily basis.” says Barrett.

As conditions in the weather change, Odie wants people to remain aware of the drought, and burn ban, during this time. A day after a fiery incident at a palate factory in the Hickory area. “Right now, there is zero outdoor burning, no charcoal grill, no back porch wood flames are allowed, no barrel burning, any of that is strictly under that burn ban, it is not a good idea to burn anything at this time.”

As the fall season is here and residents expect things to cool down, Odie says it’s important to remember to have a plan for any type of weather, and to also be safe.
