Meridian, MS - Starting his career with the Meridian Fire Department at the age of 19, Fire Chief Jason Collier feels it is time to close this chapter and move onward to new endeavors. “That’s anybody’s goal when they start a career is to be able to one day retire after a full career, and I certainly have had a full career here.”
After 27 years full of memories, Collier reflects on the bond created with team members. “You just become family, you do stuff on your off days together, you go through the hard times together when you have a bad call or something, you always got each other.”
As Chief Collier’s last day is set October 31st, he also commented on the task of finding another Fire Chief. “That’s up to the mayor, for he to choose whoever he would like, ideally it would come from in the fire department here, everybody has aspirations of moving up, and there certainly is no shortage of talent her inside the Meridian Fire Department.”
“I really want to say how much I appreciate Mayor Smith; he trusted me to run the fire department, I appreciate him trusting me, appreciate the council voting for me, and supporting my ideas all this time.” says Collier.
