In Clarke County, Clarkco State Park is inviting local residents to come to the park on January 1, as the park participates in the “First Day Hike” nationwide initiative.

All of the state parks across the US participate in the “First Day Hike” initiative, which encourages people to enjoy the outdoors on the first day of the new year. That day, Clarkco State Park will be allowing free entrance into the park, and the event will run all day. Those come to the park for the “First Day Hike” will be given refreshments, and medallions to commemorate their participation in the initiative. Park manager, Tony Fleming, shared that this year were will be minor changes to the annual event due to COVID-19.
“We’re not doing any guided tours this year. It’s, --people going to be doing them on their own. we’re going to give them a map, show them where all the trails are, and you know, --we’re going to let them do it that way, and but being outside in mother nature, and in the park and the air, it shouldn’t be any hazardous for people to be able to come here to the park and do enjoy the day,” said Tony Fleming.

The "First Day Hike" at Clarkco State Park will kick-off at 8am on Friday, January
