First graders at Northeast Elementary thank Mississippi Power workers

First graders at Northeast Elementary School thanked workers with Mississippi Power for their efforts.

As a part of a lesson on community helpers, students were able to give back to Mississippi Power workers, thanking them for the help they provided to the gulf coast after it was impacted by Hurricane Laura. Students presented handmade colorful cards to Mississippi Power workers, and gifted them with a bag full of chapstick in front of the school.

“I think it helps teach kids, because they’re able to see what Mississippi Power, that those people do for us –in a more tangible way, and then how we in turn can help them, and it just brings community full circle,” said Linda Weir, Family and Community Engagement Coordinator.

Northeast Elementary also used the opportunity to further thank Mississippi Power for helping the school build its new reading garden.
