What was supposed to be a thirteen-year retirement lead to many more years of service for David Little.
“I really didn’t retire. I worked half a year at Choctaw Alabama High School. Then I went to Meridian Community College and worked for many years--I worked a year at Lamar and then back to MCC.”
Former Superintendent of the Lauderdale County School District, David Little is back in the classroom teaching science to 11th and 12th graders at his alma mater Southeast Lauderdale High School. This came about when his nephew Christopher Harper asked him to fill-in while he is deployed in Qatar.

“I taught Chris here even. I taught him several different classes--real smart kid. He’s teaching science here now--A&P, earth science and different things. He called me back in June and told me he had to leave sometime in July and be back probably around Christmas and asked me if I’d fill in.”
Little explains teaching has always been dear to his heart.
“It’s what we're called to do. We love the kids and love teaching. It’s a blessing that you get to see the kids grow physically and mentally and it’s a lot of fun--just rewarding. Hopefully what I teach them, they’ll learn.”
After many years of experience, Little says he plans on continuing his retirement once his nephew returns.
