Free nutrition classes for moms-to-be

ree

De Kalb, Miss. - For pregnant women making healthy food choices is essential. According to experts, nutrition plays an important role in the development of a healthy fetus and the overall health of a pregnant woman, to ensure a safe birthing experience. Today's Mom is a free educational program through an extension of Mississippi State University to educate expecting mothers on nutrition. The program is a series of six different topics that address everything from healthy food choices to breastfeeding.

Mary Bennamon, a nutrition educator at Mississippi State University, says nutrition is vital to the health of both mother and baby.

“If you don’t eat healthily and gain the weight and the baby doesn’t gain the weight, that means that your baby's health rate will be at risk,” says Bennamon.

The program is offered in Kemper County, but Bennamon says that expecting mothers have an alternative way to access nutrition classes.

Upon successful completion of the Today’s Mom program, the participant will receive this reinforcement basket. Those interested in the course can join for free, despite your zip code. For more information or to register for the classes, please contact Mary Bennamon at the Kemper County Extension office at 601-743-2837 or if you have any questions. Email: mlb267@msstate.edu
