Jackson, MS - It’s the Second Annual Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Student Conference, and according to Jackson State University President Dr. Elayne Hayes Anthony, It’s the perfect source of network for young journalists. “As broadcasters, we are still where we’ve always been, and that is on top.”

Students had the opportunity to connect with many news stations, attend different study sessions, and receive motivational words from Marcus “Doc” Holiday. “You don’t want to burn any bridges because you see those people again. You got to always have a good work reputation and a good reputation period.”

Mississippi State University student Anthony Jenkins Jr. explained his interest in the journalism world. “Watching ESPN, Fox Sports, it really made me want to be a part of production, not just sport-wise but also news, because I did watch CNN when I was growing up.”

He also expressed how he finds events like this beneficial to the future. “Network with a lot of business professional people that are also in the field, I know they had to start somewhere just like I did.”

Speaking of the future, Ole Miss Student Verlecia Gavin emphasized what she hopes to do in the journalism world. “I definitely want to start out when I graduate as an MMJ or a reporter, then eventually as I grow in my career, end up behind the anchor desk.”

Students who attended the MAB Student Conference said that they were happy to learn valuable information to help them in the Journalism World.
