MERIDIAN, Miss. - A group from Magnolia Middle School called ‘Girls Wear Pearls’ mentorship program held a “Cultures Around the World” event Wednesday. The members were able to taste a variety of food from different tables, while learning about the culture.
The food was prepared by mentors of the group as well as restaurants in the community. The group has year round events such as these for the girls to learn outside of the classroom.
“We all come together and we all make this happen. Everyone comes together to do their part and this is what you have when sisterhood comes together," said Founder Tabbotha Adams Jones. "We just want our young ladies to know we’ll do anything to get them to the next level of life to be successful.”
Students of the group are happy to have these experiences at a young age.
“It has helped us understand the stuff that we girls go through and it has given us a new space to learn and it has helped become more ladylike," said 8th grader Alondra Guzman.
The "Girls Wear Pearls" mentor group has a total of 164 members and 8 mentors. The organization was founded in 2016.
