Meridian, MS - As today is "Giving Tuesday," and the holiday season is here, many organizations in the community are encouraging people to get into the spirit of giving.
“It’s a time that we can reach everyone, and they can give back to their community,” says Kym Parnell.
Kym Parnell is the executive director of United Way of East Mississippi and expressed why giving is so important. “Our mission is to make sure that we provide critical support to those that are in need.”
Parnell also emphasized the many organizations people can donate to, such as the Salvation Army, Feed by Faith, Loves Kitchen, and many more.
United Way isn’t the only organization pushing for donations, Home Instead is encouraging people in the community to “Be a Santa to a Senior” this holiday season.
“Maybe shut-ins, or they may be in a nursing home, and they don’t have loved ones that can join them this holiday season,” says Human Resource Manager Kim Yudt.
Kim Yudt of Home Instead said the purpose of this campaign is to spread extra love during this season. “As you see we have plenty of names still on our tree, we even have some to replace these once we get through, so we ask you just to come in, grab one, do a little shopping, and help someone this year.”
The last day Home Instead will accept gifts for the campaign will be Thursday, December 14th.
