Gov. Reeves advises all Mississippians to remain weather aware regarding Hurricane Delta

Governor Tate Reeves is asking for all Mississippians to remain weather aware, as the state waits for the possible impact from Hurricane Delta. On Thursday October 8, the governor stated during his update on Hurricane Delta, that the storm is expected to track a similar path to Hurricane Laura. Governor Reeves shared that although it is anticipated majority of Delta’s impact will be felt in the southern and western parts of the state, he urges all Mississippians to be prepared and have their emergency plans in place, as the storm could possibly bring severe weather to other parts of the state.

“Just because you’re not in our coastal counties, does not mean that you’re not going to be spared over the next 72 hours, there’s going to be a lot of rain in Mississippi, there is the potential for tornadoes, particularly in Forrest and Hancock and Pearl River, but also in those six south western counties,” said Gov. Tate Reeves.

He stated in addition, that there is still a risk of tornadoes still developing in other parts of the state.

“We do have some level of risk, marginalized chances of tornadoes in the rest of our state as well. we expect the storm at this time to depart the vicinity of Corinth, MS, sometime around the middle of the night, around 2am on Sunday. So, we anticipate this storm or what’s left of the eye of it will only spend about 30 hours in Mississippi,” said Gov. Reeves.

During his press conference with MEMA, Gov. Tate Reeves also stated that the recent declaration of a State of Emergency is not final if Hurricane Delta’s path changes course from what is anticipated.
