Governor Reeves attend Southern Pipe's Ribbon cutting ceremony

Today, Governor Reeves visited Lauderdale county to take part in an Economic Development for The Queen City where Southern Pipe had their official ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new location.

"It's a great day for Lauderdale. It's a great day for the state of Mississippi as a family that is known by so many. Here, the Davidson family renews their commitment to Meridian with a major corporate investment, which is going to keep hundreds and hundreds of jobs here, going to increase the number of jobs in this distribution facility," stated Gov.Reeves.

Southern Pipe is a family grown business that has been in the city of Meridian for over 84 years and continues to grow and expand in The Queen City.

"One of the great things about economic development is that when we have homegrown companies that are growing all across the country, for them to continue to grow in their home community, like here in meridian, is a great day for Southern Pipe," said Reeves.

Governor Reeves explains why it was important for him to be a part of today’s event.

"To see small businesses that were born and raised here and Mississippi expanding that maybe aren't quite so small anymore, but clearly very important to this local community and very important to the economic development prospects in the future prosperity of Mississippi."

The new building is 500,000 square feet southern pipe president Jay Davidson tells us what made them move to this new location.

"So perfect for interstate access and for our geography, where we're located in the central part of it. So those two pieces were the main reasons. But then, of course, the community helped us get into the state, helped us, and made it all happen," said Davidson.

The expansion of southern pipe to a bigger location also brings room for new job opportunities.
