Governor Tate Reeves has announced the extension of social distancing measures under the safe return order. This includes the statewide mask mandate and issuing limitations on crowd-size for K-12 extracurricular activities.
Students are now allowed only two participants per activity and each event is required to have a safety officer to ensure all social distancing guidelines are being met.
“Our principals and athletic directors-we have a planned meeting on Wednesday morning. We’re going to get together and really work on what protocols and procedures will look like,” says Lauderdale County School District Superintendent Dr. John-Mark Cain. “Probably what we’ll do is say each student will get two and they’re going to have to pick those two at their discretion. Maybe it’s mom and dad one week and grandma and grandpa the next game, that maybe a possibility. Our coaches are having to take a COVID-19 siminare. We received notice of that last week as well so they’re familiar with what that looks like."
In addition, Governor Reeves has extended the social distancing measures until Monday, August 31st at 8AM.
