Southeast High School’s head football coach, 41-year-old Calvin Hampton, was killed in a tragic car accident this afternoon.

The accident happened on Highway 19 and Long Creek Road, near the Shell Gas Station around 1 pm. Investigators say Hampton was driving when an 18-wheeler, driven by James Risher of Pulaski, collided with his vehicle at the intersection. The 18-wheeler was left overturned, and the driver of the semi has no reported injuries.
“The Nissan Maxima was travelling east bound on Long Creek Road, attempting to cross Highway 19, and as the vehicle was crossing 19, the collision occurred within the intersection of 19, and Long Creek road. The driver of the Nissan Maxima was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the semi received no injuries,” said Andy West, Staff Sergeant with MHP Troop H.

Hampton joined the Southeast staff in 2019, and spent the previous three seasons as head coach at Meridian High School. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
