Highland Baptist Church begins its Holy Week

One congregation in The Queen City is kicking off the week of Easter by giving.

This week Highland Baptist Church is kicking off the Easter Holiday with their Annual Holy Week Lunches. We hear from the pastor about what this annual event means to his church.

“This is a big week for Christians all over the world. In fact, Sunday is kind of like our super bowl. And so, part of this is all about just what the life that Jesus has given us through His death, burial, and resurrection. Because we have that life, we want to bless others as well. And so, this is a way that we can serve our neighborhood and our city,” said Pastor Hopkins.

Greer who has been a part of the holy week lunches for 19 years says this is something they do to prepare for Easter Sunday.

“This is just a little outreach ministry we do for the city around Easter just to prepare your hearts for the upcoming week. We have lunches every day, delicious lunches, beautiful music, and a short devotion, and speech from different Pastors all over the city,” said Nancee Greer.

Each day beginning at 11:45 am they will be serving a different lunch followed by a guest speaker and a soloist.

“I think we feel blessed and privileged to be able to have a space to be able to do this. Then we are blessed and privileged to have a community that we can serve in. And more than all that, we're blessed and privileged that we get to serve a God who wants to love our city and our community through us like that, “said Pastor Hopkins.

With an estimation to have a little over 100 people in attendance, Greer tells us why having this program is so important.

“This is something we do because this is the ultimate of the Christian life.

This is what it's all about. That Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He rose again. And now he sits at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us. And that is such a time for rejoicing and so that's what this is all about,” stated Greer.
