Meridian Ward 4 Councilwoman and City Council President Kim Houston announced her candidacy for Mayor of today at James Chaney Memorial Park.
Houston has served on the council for the last eight years and says she is ready to step up to the challenge. Houston acknowledges Civil Rights leaders for her opportunity to run for the City of Meridian.
“It’s because of them that I have the opportunity to step down from my council seat, but in order to step up for the office of mayor so we can do more for the citizens here in Meridian,” said Houston. “Our city has been divided far too long and it’s now time for us to come together with one voice so we can make sure things can continue to be done.”
Houston says she aims to make sure all voices are heard in the city and safety is in place around the community.
"We want to make sure every citizen knows their worth. All across town, every citizen matters and we want to make sure we put things in place," said Houston.
Deadline for candidacy is in February and the primary election is in April.
