COINCIDENTLY ENOUGH HURRICANE IDA WILL BE TOUCHING DOWN ON THE GULF COAST ON THE 16TH ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE KATRINA.

Ahead of hurricane Ida, a press release released by the Mississippi state department of health (MSDH) advises residents to prepare now for dangerous storm conditions including heavy rain, possible flash flooding, high winds, and possible tornadoes. The director of public safety tells us more about how we can be prepared.
Doug Stephens, the Director of Public Safety stated, “Well, just earlier this morning, we had a weather briefing with the National Weather Service. We sat down with our fire Department, police Department personnel and talked about some of the things that we may see as far as impacts their predictions right now.”
The Public Works Department are out being proactive in making sure that some of the outlets and places that we are prone to flood are clear throughout today.”
“We could three up to 30 miles an hour winds and up to five to eight inches of rain, which could cause us some minor flooding issues and possibly some down trees.
In the event of a power outage, you want to make sure you have non-perishable food items available as well as clean drinking water.
“Stay weather informed and if it looks like we're going to have some impact, some major impacts, of course, have that emergency plan. Have an emergency kit. Be sure that you are able to sustain y our family in your household for 72 hours.”
An Emergency kit may include items such as a first aid kit, battery-powered radio, baby food, pet food,Kit, and personal hygiene items.
“We just ask that people watch, pay attention, be weather-minded. This thing could change. We could have a much more significant storm. It just depends on how quickly it intensifies, how fast it moves.”
A few showers and thunderstorms are possible on Saturday and Sunday we will possibly have wind speeds reaching up to 30 mph and 5-8 inches of rainfall. Be sure to continue to stay up to date with the latest forecast on hurricane Ida.
