Meridian, MS - Do you know what you need to stay safe during hurricane season? Well, marketing and communication director, Julie Bowles, and the East Mississippi Electric Power Association is providing people with that information, and more. “We’ve got Information about energy efficiency, about hurricane season which started today, electrical safety, as well as information about our broadband fiber internet service through East Mississippi Connect.”
As for the necessities for the hurricane season, Marketing Communication Specialist Jeremy Sollie explains. “It’s good to be proactive and make sure that you have at least three days of food and water already stored, if you have any pets, it’s good to have food and water stored for them as well. Then you’ll need the essentials like flashlights, radio, extra batteries.”
Safety and Training Coordinator David Akin warns about the danger of storm debris and powerlines. “Just because they seem to be dead may not always be true, always respect the powerline and assume that it is energized.”
Speaking of powerlines, Rhonda Browning of Meridian was fully interested. "They had a display where it showed it catches on fire, knocks your power out, you know. So don’t fly a kite near powerlines, definitely one of the main things I learned."
With today being the start of hurricane season, the East Mississippi Electric Power Association are showing people that they care by giving them tips they can use to protect themselves this season, as well as general information.
