Mississippi Department of Transportation officials met with Mayor Percy Bland to announce many infrastructure projects making way to Meridian. Officials are working on a design build project where they will widen three bridges on 65th Avenue, Highway 19 and Knight Parker Road as well as an overlay on Highway 19 from North Hills Street to the I-59 Interstate.
“In that project we’ll have dynamic message boards put on in the town of Meridian, we’ll also be installing traffic cameras and we’ll be upgrading all the lighting throughout the town of Meridian on the interstate.”
These projects will be around 25 million dollars. The city will also be paving many streets in Meridian. Paving will take place on 8th Street at McDonald’s to the Temple Theater. Another paving will take place on 45th Avenue from 8th Street to Highland Park.
“The infrastructure of having all these streets paved over the next six to twelve months-it’s very important for us because we’re going to have safer streets and we’re going to have more paved streets. All of our exits will have LED lights.”
Officials say the projects are set to begin within the next two months.
