Good news for those who might still be waiting on their stimulus checks, more than 9 million Americans will be sent a letter from the IRS encouraging them to see if they're eligible to claim an Economic Impact Payment.

For those who don’t usually file their taxes and have not yet registered to claim the Economic Impact Payment of $1200, you may receive a letter from the IRS with instructions on how to claim your stimulus check.
As October 15, the deadline to receive the stimulus payment approaches, people who receive one of the letters sent by the IRS will have until that time to submit the necessary information required to receive payment. The letter will list the criteria to be eligible to claim an Economic Impact Payment, along with the instructions on how to claim it online.
Two Meridian residents shared that they believe these deadlines will benefit those still waiting on an Economic Impact Payment.
“Anytime you get a little extra money –for the really low income, and the people that’s been out of work, that because of the COVID, I think that this will really come in handy, I really do,” said Melba Chapman, believes the economic impact payment deadline will benefit many.
“I think more so to pay bills, to help out their families. I think that it’s very important that everybody gets one, and its kind of sad that not everybody has. I think that a deadline would benefit, that way everybody can go ahead and get the first round, that way they’ll be eligible for the second round,” said Rachel Cole, believes the economic impact payment deadline will benefit many.
One woman shared that she believes the timeframe the stimulus checks are distributed needs to be addressed as government officials discuss sending a second round of the Economic Impact Payment.
“I think that’s going to be an issue to be addressed, because you know it’s taking a long time to get them, its something to be reviewed, I guess, in the way they get them sent out and the time frame –whatever, it needs to be addressed,” said Chapman.

If you are anticipating receiving an economic impact payment, you are able to check its status by using the Get My Payment Tool on the IRS’s website.
