Meridian, MS - As part of the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation Education outreach program, Executive Director Leslie Lee provided students at Crestwood Elementary school an opportunity to receive lessons about music and art, as well as learn the history of Jimmie Rodgers. “We’ve been working on this project for the last two years, and we are now able to fund it and bring it to schools locally in our district.”

As children learned about Jimmie Rodgers style of music and even some of his songs, Music Teacher Derrick Howard, felt it was a good lesson for the students. “A lot of kids now a days don’t have any understanding of classical music, even the start of music in Mississippi in general, it’s wonderful to have them come here and educate the kids on something like that.”

He also encourages students learning more about music and the Impact it has on the community. “It’s wonderful the past of our state, for one; and understanding music at the same time.”

The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation and Crestwood elementary say they are proud to teach the students about music as another stop on their road to success.
