Meridian MS - The Keep Mississippi Beautiful Organization recognized two individuals who help beautify the City of Meridian. One award went to Betty Lou Jones who is the organization’s coordinator. The other went to Lauderdale County Solid Waste Enforcement Officer Jonas Carter.
"We don't do things for the recognition, we do it for the right reasons. I was very humbled to receive that award that my actions are not going unnoticed." says Solid Waste Enforcement Officer Jonas Carter
Speaking of actions, Officer Carter focuses on the community. “Do the right thing, we have different options to dispose of large bulky trash, so there's really no reason to illegally dump throughout our county and county roads.”
So, has litter or waste dumping gotten better or worse? "Are we at a position or where we need to be... I don't think so. But I think we have some momentum in the right direction to keep Meridian and Lauderdale County beautiful."
Jonas carter says the more people report wasteful dumping when they see it, the cleaner we can keep the community.
