Meridian, MS - As on the road travel is to be expected for Labor Day weekend, Mississippi Highway Patrol will be out enforcing Travel Safety. “We’ll be out looking for speeders, aggressive drivers, impaired drivers, and trying to promote seatbelt usage.” says Public Affairs Officer Jameka Moore.
Public Affairs Officer Jameka Moore advises travelers to use caution when on the road. “Don’t follow too closely, don’t tailgate, reduce your speeds, wear your seatbelt is one of the most important things you can do.”
Being the last holiday of the summer season, residents like Rose All, Jacie Moore, and Patricia Harris, hope the fall transition will bring a cool down from the extremely hot summer. “Taking that heat, it is miserable on the body.” says Rose All. “I’ll be glad when it’s not so humid, and the bugs go away.” says Jacie Moore. “With the people that have to work out here, in the heat, I just feel sorry for them.” says Patricia Harris.
As for plans for the holiday, the residents will most likely be indoors. “Staying home and staying out of trouble.” says All. “Decorating for fall since it’s now September.” says Moore. “It depends on how hot it’s going to be, if it’s going to be really hot, I’ll be inside the house.” says Harris.
As people prepare for Labor Day Weekend, they are hoping that as summer transitions into fall, it brings cool temperatures along with it.
