Meridian High School girls' basketball team won the 6A championship this past Saturday. Twin States News captured the moment of the team and coaches cutting their basketball net down.

The Lady Wildcats finished the game out with a 49-43 score over Harrison Central and brought home the first championship trophy for the Meridian High school girls basketball team.
MVP of the game Debresha Powe says dedication is what got the team to this point.
“Hard work and dedication. I feel as we deserved it”, said Powe. “We came into this gym every single day when no one was in here, just us. We put in the work, we grinded out every single day and we pushed each other.”

The team had the honor of cutting their basketball net, a tradition every championship team does after winning.
“It felt really good. I love my teammates, just knowing how hard we worked this season, everybody. It was a great feeling. We were here together”, stated lady wildcat Taleah Anderson

Twin States News asked lady wildcat Symia Harbour how it felt being in the last moments of the game:
“I just knew we’re going to knock it down. It felt great though, but in my chest, sitting on the bench, it was a wonderful feeling”, said Symia. “We just made sure we boxed out. Every time they went up or we went up, we made sure we boxed out and put our bodies on somebody.”

Lady wildcat coach of five years, Deneshia Faulkner, told Twin States News that on her first day of coaching for Meridian High, she promised her girls a championship.
“It was just unreal. I’m sitting there and I’m thinking “Hey, is there another quarter or is this it?”; I know I saw four up there for four quarters”, stated Coach Faulkner. “I was just so excited. Just to sit down, I think I had to take a seat at the moment. To sit back and soak in everything and watch the kids celebrate, that was the most beautiful site, just watching the kids celebrate.”
The city of Meridian will be hosting a championship parade in honor of the team after spring break.
