Meridian, MS - The time has come for residents of Lauderdale County to dispose of the hazardous waste they have accumulated at the house over the past few months.
The Solid Waste Code Enforcement Officer for Lauderdale County, Daniel Mabry, tells Twin States News why people should take part in Amnesty Day.
“It’s designed for stuff that you can’t put in those trash cans. Your pesticides, your old used motor oil, paint cans, things you may have stored up in your sheds, or whatever. This is the time to get rid of that stuff.”
Mr. Mabry also listed more things that they will accept this Saturday.
“Solvents, fertilizers, paint, paint thinners, batteries, brake fluid, florescent bulbs, old gasoline, used oil, we are accepting used tires. We are taking 5 tires per vehicle. Appliances, your TV’s. We’ll also have the recycling bins there so you can bring your plastic soda bottles and cardboard materials.”
Lauderdale County residents expressed why dumping your hazardous materials in the correct place is important.
“Batteries, paint cans, and that kind of thing, I think it’s very important as far as chemicals and hazardous things, they need to go in the proper places.”
“It’s important that we take care of our environment and put everything where it is supposed to be. You know that is less germs and hazard.”
This service is for ADSI Trash Customers.
Mr. Mabry said they will be at the Ag Center, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
