
Meridian, MS - The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department will soon be concluding a series of sobriety checkpoints.
These checkpoints are meant to find and stop impaired drivers, although they can sometimes lead to other arrests. The checkpoints can be set up by law enforcement whenever necessary but are required to be made known to the public beforehand.
“During this time period, we’ve issued: 7 expired tags, 15 expired driver's license, 13 suspended driver license, 13 seatbelt violations, 10 child restraint violations, 18 no insurance, 3 possessions of drugs or misdemeanor charges, 2 possession of drugs felony charges, 5 DUI’s, 1 found possession of firearm, and 1 possession of alcohol.” says Sheriff Billy Sollie.
The remaining two checkpoints will be tonight from 10:30pm - 11:30pm on Lindley Rd, in front of Lamar School and on Wednesday from 9:00pm - 10:00pm on 5th Street at Cooper Avenue
