Meridian, MS - Residents of Meridian and Lauderdale County now have a new Government Complex, as the ribbon has been cut, opening the new building.
“This is our house, this is our house, we are paying for it, so y’all need to enjoy,” says Mayor Jimmie Smith.
“It’s been 117 years since our last courthouse was built, so you add 117 years of a growing population, elected officials and their employees, and the way things are done, it was just time to get out of that old building,” says Jonathan Wells.
The new complex is said to be more secure, and state of the art, and according to Lauderdale County District 1 Supervisor Board President Jonathan Wells, the complex presents future opportunities to benefit the city, the County, and its residents. “You have your tax accessor, you have your tax collector, you have your board of supervisors here, your chancery is here; where lawyers come in to look at land records, so there’s a lot of stuff other than just courthouse business going on, it’s the Government Complex.”
Speaking of Government, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves was also in attendance to welcome the new complex. “We have proven in Mississippi over the last several years that Mississippi is open for business, and what you’re proving here today yet again is that Meridian and Lauderdale County are open for business.”
Lauderdale County officials ensure that this new government center is a building for the people, and by the people of Meridian, and Lauderdale County.
