The Lauderdale County School Board held a meeting tonight to vote on specific return to school guidelines. This meeting will determine on measures the LCSD nursing staff have in place to prevent COVID-19.
“We’re going to make sure the school nurses, faculty and staff provide a safe return for the school year 2020-2021. We’re going to adhere to all guidelines,” says LCSD Nurse Lisa Brewster.
With this concern in mind, the district has added 3 nurses to their faculty.
Jordan Mchenry, Stephanie Felton, and Tiffany Wooldridge will report to schools in the district this fall. With the new hires, one nurse will be stationed on each Lauderdale County School campus.
“Having a nurse on each site is going to have more manpower for the nurses,” says LCSD Lead Nurse Sherie Shelby. “We’re going to be able to implement some of our illness policies, be able to identify these students, help with implementing our cleaning and our temperature taking.”
Additionally, the nurses are preparing resources to handle potential COVID-19 in the district.
“You’ll have your regular nurses station, where we’ll identify any type of sickness and illness-along with doing our regular nursing duties. We are also going to have an isolation room where we can put our potential sick students in away from our well students and that’s going to be a tremendous change.”
Shelby assures parents that all nurses in the district will keep their children as safe as possible.
