Today in Lauderdale County, all offices in the Lauderdale County School District reopened, allowing the district to begin preparing for students return to school for the fall semester.

After months of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, the Lauderdale County School District allows for staff members to return to their offices, as the district awaits its finalized “Return to Learn” plan, with its main goal being a traditional return to school in August.
One hundred eighty-eight hand sanitizers stations have been installed throughout the district, and those that work with the district are now required to conduct a self-assessment of their health prior to coming to work, completing a survey on the district’s website.
“It’s just simple questions. Such as, have you been exposed to COVID within 48 hours or are you experiencing any COVID symptoms? We also have these digital thermometers at all of our locations, where our employees can check their temp and we are going by the temperature of 100.5, so if anything is that or greater, we’re asking you not to come on our camp
us”, said DeShannon Davis, Director of Federal Programs and MSIS.

Some schools are beginning to implement their own unique changes to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19 once school resumes, like Northeast Lauderdale Elementary School.
“What we’re doing is when a parent or visitor comes in there’s a window now, right when you enter the door, and we’ll have an office staff member there who will, talk to people and find out what they need and if they are there for a need to be in the building, then we will contact whoever it is that they’re needing to meet, but it will all be very scheduled, prearranged, and take place sort of screening right there, before anybody comes to the building”, said Lisa Shelly, principal of Northeast Lauderdale Elementary School.
The Lauderdale County School District plans to announce its official “Return to Learn” plan by July 10.
