NORTHEAST LAUDERDALE HIGHSCHOOL HOSTS A CELEBRATION FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS. OUR VERY OWN DANNY TODD SPEAKS WITH THEM AS THEY HONOR THEIR HARD WORK IN A RECORD-BREAKING GRADUATING CLASS.
Mississippi Department of Education releases that Lauderdale County School had a record breaking 94.4% graduation rate among the top of those in the county is Northeast High School at 97%. Twin States News speaks with them about their secret as to how they managed to be on top of this record-breaking number.
MR. JOSHUA HERRINGTON: NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL says "We're here to celebrate our graduation rate for the last school year. Our graduation rate was 97%. And we're here just to celebrate our teachers and our students and for just what hard work they've done and what an accomplishment."
ALLYSON WELLS: GRADUATION COACH says "Our big news at Northeast High School is that we have a 97% graduation rate. This beats our graduation rate of 94% last year. And it's the highest in school history. It's the highest in district history. It's the highest and Lauderdale County School District. And we are so excited."
Allyson Wells told Twin States News that the secret of how they've been so successful is the teamwork that goes into what they do. And high school counselor Claire Threatt agrees.
CLAIRE THREATT: HIGHSCHOOL COUNSELOR says "Every single one of our support staff, our administration, our team of teachers, we've got the best team of teachers in the state, in the nation, maybe even. And we just all work incredibly hard. We work as a team. And I think that has a lot to do with our graduation rate being 97%."
Not only are the faculty of Northeast High School excited about this, but the next graduating class says the goal is 100% and they're going to do their part to beat the record yet again next year.
ALONDRA ARREOLA-ESPINO: SENIOR CLASS PRESIDENT says "It is important for me to hold my peers accountable because I believe that every generation can either go downhill or they can strive above the generation before that.
Alondra stresses the importance of what it means to her class to look at the previous graduating class as inspiration. But she will do everything in her power to push her peers so that no one is left behind.
