The day before Lauderdale County schools return, teachers, counselors, and administrators came together to discuss what they can do to develop the growth and advancement of their schools this semester.

Northeast elementary teacher Linda Taylor expressed what she learned in the meeting and what she plans on implementing it into her classroom.

“Shifting the mindset, changing your way of doing things, and being more open to saying yes”, said Taylor. “Yes, it’s okay, even when they mess up just say yes and then redirect them”

Administrators and teachers read the book “Live Your Excellence”. The book showed them how building relationships with students turns into a positive investment.

“Building relationships with students, community, and parents, that’s one of the biggest things that we can do to ensure that you’re providing the quality environment for students and the culture of our school and community”, stated the Director of curriculum and instruction, Sandy Reid. “Live Your Excellence pushes us as educators to make sure we are forming those relationships.”

With covid numbers back on the rise, Superintendent Cain believes investing in the schools' community and education is important.

“We want to invest in teachers, we want to invest in students and how do we best do that. It’s not about being complying it’s about investing culture in your people. We’re dealing with so much with the pandemic and we’re seeing another wave with that, so we just have to keep the main thing the main thing”, said Superintendent Cain.

LCSD has decided to bring back several of the protocols used to monitor the spread of COVID.

“We’ll be doing temperature checks again; we know that that is one of the symptoms of this new variant. We will also be relocating students during lunch, our buses for athletic events will be limited in numbers, and we will try to encourage a mask", stated Dr. Mark-Cain.

Lauderdale county schools return tomorrow on A-B schedule with half of the students returning Thursday and the other half returning Friday.
