Today students from the Lauderdale County School are taking a break from the classroom with their day of service.179 students have been divided up into four of the district's communities to help out and provide services.

"Today we have our CTE Day of Service where our kids get to partner up with each other and get to go out in the community and just do some good. So this is a second annual one, I believe, and I'm just excited to be out here and help somebody in our community," stated Jeremy Scott-Smith, Southeast High Construction Teacher.
At this particular location, students are helping out Mrs. Cindy with some work around her yards with mowing, pulling weeds, and anything else she’s needing help with.
"Well, this is my mom. Her name is Cindy Coker, and she's just always supported our programs and everything. We just wanted to help somebody that needed help. And due to some circumstances and it's just nice to help somebody that's always helped us," said Smith.
Miss Mississippi even made a stop by to support the student’s efforts in giving back to the community and this is what she had to say.

"I'm here to support the young people that have decided to take time out of their day, out of their busy schedules, to give back to the community. I think that Mississippi so often gets put in a bad negative light, but we do highlight the stories like this one, and we need to support people like these young students who want to make a difference in our great state," stated Emmie Perkins.
Today would typically be an off day for the students, I spoke with some and asked what made them want to take part in today’s day of service.

"I think that it's great that we're coming out here to help Mrs.Cindy is actually my Grandma and so we kind of have had to come out here a little bit more and help recently. I think it's great that a lot more people are willing to help us in a time of need because she has a lot of yards and there's only one person to do all this. So, I'm very grateful for that and it feels really good to be able to come out here with all my classmates and help out somebody that's a part of my family and it makes me feel like everybody really cares about the community," stated Brooklyn Johnson.
Leann Christian another student from Southeast said, "Just helping out people that can't really do it themselves is good. It just lets you know that you're actually making a difference. Makes me feel good to know that we can help somebody else in need."
