The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department restarted their food giveaway today at the Lauderdale County Ag Center. Two trucks were loaded with boxes that included a variety of items such as fruit, vegetables and meat. Sheriff Billy Sollie says a total of 28 pallets held 50 boxes of food. Volunteers from the Meridian Police Department, Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency and community members assisted in the giveaway.
“This is round five of the funding and we hope for the next six weeks, we'll have at least two trucks coming in here so we can provide some food relief for families in Lauderdale County,” said Sollie. “We know COVID has been tough and a lot of folks are unemployed and we’re just happy to be a part of a team and distribute some much needed help to some families.”
Sollie says the food giveaway will be held every Wednesday for the next six weeks.
