The Lauderdale County School District is using tutoring as a teaching tool for students in the district. Beginning this month, online tutoring services will be available thanks to a grant the school recently applied for.
“The district was awarded a little over $200,000 in Governor’s Emergency Education Relief and it was a task force for innovative and educational solutions,” said Dr. Marie Roberts, LCSD Instructional Technologist.
Tutoring services will be at students’ fingertips 24/7 and 365 days a year to work as a follow up as to what’s happening in the classroom. Roberts says appointments do not have to be scheduled and it will be a one-minute wait time for students.

“They are online based--web based so they’ll log in through their learning management system known as canvas and they’ll click on a button that will say tutor me and from there they’ll have the option to connect with a live tutor,” said Roberts.
These tutoring options are not limited. The system allows students to choose from 300 different subjects and receive one on one support.
“They can chat with that tutor,” said Roberts. “They can connect their video conferences well. They have a white board to draw or annotate to work out problems or even upload a file--like maybe a PDF of a worksheet that they’re working on for their teacher.”
Tutoring services will be available to students grades 5th through 12th this year and then available to students grades K through 12th next year.
