Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency Director Odie Barrett says the Lauderdale County area may not see a heavy impact from the hurricane, but can experience heavy rain and localized flooding.
“Right now the storm is taking an eastern turn and looks like it’s going to go east-- a little south of us, even south of Clarke County and that’s a good thing. It doesn’t put us on the eastside of the storm. We will get a lot of rain out of this. Localized flooding is possible.”
With Sally now being classified as a hurricane, LEMA advices residents to be cautious and prepared.
“We always want to make sure we have water and food for everybody--at least one gallon per day per person. Make sure that your plans are known--you know what you’re going to do and everybody in your household knows what you’re going to do an don’t take this storm lightly.”
Barrett adds that staying weather aware is an important factor when it comes to safety.
“You can do that by our Facebook page, looking at the news channel with their weather--just any means, even with the radio, but everybody does need to stay weather aware during this time and keep up with what this storm is doing.”
To stay updated on emergency statuses, residents can text their zip code to 888777.
