Meridian, MS - Reconciliation Week continued with its annual Lemonade Day, offering Ice cold lemonade, and cookies to people in the community.
“My mother took the saying “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade,” so this is about the 16th year we have come to Dumont Plaza to pass out lemonade.” says Stacey Miller
Stacey Miller is chair of the Reconciliation Foundation and feels today about more than just lemonade. “We award two Scholarships: Rev. Charles J. Miller Memorial Scholarships. The applicants write an essay on what is great about Meridian and the surrounding community, and then they are scored by our judges, English teachers who award the top two recipients.”
One of those recipients was Ramya Hudnall, who felt it was important to give back to the community. “Me personally, if I had gone through a tragedy, I don’t know how I would’ve reacted, but during this week it was just like I guess I could do something to give back, that way other people could feel better about how they would handle a situation as well.”
Ramya plans to use the scholarship towards going to Southern Miss University, as well as her future endeavors. "I’m going to go to Medical School so I can become a surgeon at a hospital."
The C.J. Miller Foundation thanks those who came out to get lemonade, as well as remember those who lost their lives during Reconciliation week.
