The Firehouse Church of Meridian is collecting women’s handbags stuffed with women’s toiletry items and a personal note of encouragement as a part of their 'Handbags for Hope' event.
These bags will be donated to the Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter during Domestic Violence Awareness month.
“It’s just about helping women transition. A lot of the times when women leave domestic violence relationships, they don’t have anything,” Pastor Kajsa Cole explains. “So these bags are going to be given to them with the hopes of helping them get through the toughest spots in their lives. When women are in that spot, coming into a shelter, stepping into boldness to leave that relationship; when they get there-they may not have all the necessities they need. So this is just a way to let them know that we’re rooting for them.”
The church will be having a dropoff for handbags today at 3718 8th Street from 10AM to noon. If you’re unable to attend the dropoff, just call 1-855-917-FIRE to donate.
