Local Group Plans To Hold A Month-Long Voter Registration Event In Meridian

In Meridian, a local organization will be visiting numerous public housing apartments throughout the city every Saturday this month, helping residents register to vote.

The Dream Team of the South plans to begin their month-long voter registration event on Saturday, September 5, at the Highway Village Apartments, located on the Front Street Ext., from 1pm-2pm.

At multiple peace rallies held previously by the Dream Team of the South, the organization has provided attendees with the opportunity to register to vote. Now, by bringing registration to the homes of local residents, the Dream Team of the South hopes to educate the community on the voting process.

“A lot of individuals do not know about the process of voting, and how simple it really is. It’s all about filling out papers and sending it in. So, bringing it to peoples homes, because some people have children, and they have a lot going on, and they have work and they haven’t been able to make it to rallies, --and then some of them, it just slips their minds, and then some of them don’t feel like its that important. So, us bringing it to them, there’s really no reason, not to vote. There’s no reason not to fill out the information to vote,” said Anquanizia Hall, member of the Dream Team of South.

As October 5, the deadline to register to vote in this year’s general election draws near, the organization plans to register as many people they possibly can, hoping to motivate members of the community to vote.

“I know a lot of people are always speaking on political problems right now, and they’re always addressing them on social media –but are you really voting, are you really using your voice, are you really doing something to make a change? Yes, you can speak about it, but are you taking action? So, we are trying to get as many people to be able to take that action to use their voice, to use their right to vote, so there can be change,” said Hall.

The Dream Team of the South will provide updates regarding their September voter registration and each location they plan to visit via social media.
