Local Group Presents Resolution To Lauderdale Co. Board of Supervisors About Confederate Monument

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

Today in Lauderdale County, the president of the Dream Team of The South, presented the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors with a request for the Confederate monument to be relocated from the county courthouse to the Confederate Cemetery.

The city of Meridian wrote the resolution with the request for the removal of the monument for the Dream Team of The South. It was stated at today’s meeting, that it will be costly for the monument to be relocated, and that the Confederate Cemetery may be private property and not county owned. The board also shared that they plan to look at the plan in detail at another date.

“It was well presented with respect to what the city wrote up as a resolution, we will consider that, we’ll look into that. Really what the board needs to do at this time is to digest everything that was presented to them today, when we come back to our next work session, we’ll delve in and really have conversations about what we heard today,” said Jonathan Wells, District 1 Supervisor.

The Dream Team of The South’s request for the removal and relocation of the Confederate monument in front of the Lauderdale County Courthouse will be discussed in further detail at the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors work session on Thursday, July 16.
