New year, new me is the phase you hear this time of year. One popular New Year’s resolution is getting in shape, but now during a pandemic.
“Normally it’s our most business time of year,” said Aisha Robertson, Team Service Member at Planet Fitness. “Everyone has their resolution and goals of just coming in and being fit.”
Robertson says cleaning is the most important concern throughout the gym. Members are asked to clean before and after using a piece of equipment as well as wear a mask. Equipment is also spaced out for social fitnessing.

“We have kind of done every other piece of equipment with our members and it’s kind of spaced out,” said Robertson. “We’ve moved a lot of our equipment around. We’ve deep cleaned and spaced everything out so that it’s six feet apart.”
Every 20 minutes, a staff member does a walk throughout the gym to clean surfaces and machines. She says it takes at least one hour to sanitize all equipment as well as the bathrooms and massage areas.
“The gym is constantly being cleaned. We’re constantly disinfecting, we’re wiping down areas where they’re sweating and where there’s dust. We just want our members to come in and to be able to workout in a clean environment.”
