Local Meridian church to hold a drive-through food distribution Dec.27

In Meridian, a local church is inviting members of the community to a food distribution, as the church plans give out hundreds of food boxes this holiday weekend.

Freedom Rock Christian Fellowship Church will be holding its drive-through food distribution from 2pm- 4pm on Sunday, December 27.

The church plans to give out 500 boxes of free food, that will be filled with canned goods, turkey or ham, and one food box will be given per family. Freedom Rock’s Senior Pastor LaBaron Hedgemon told Twin States News that the church is referring to this event as “Supernatural Sunday”.

“We’re referring to it as supernatural, because of the abundance of which we are giving from a philanthropic standpoint. So, there will not be a service, --you know, all you have to do is come. We’ll have all the lines already in place for people to be able to know where to go, where to get in line, how the line will move. It’s contactless, so all they do is pull up and once they pull up, we’re going to place their items in their car, and they will proceed forward,” said Pastor LaBaron Hedgemon.

Pastor Hedgemon shared that the pandemic impacted many of the church’s other outreach events, and that they are holding this food distribution, hoping to still give back to the community during this challenging time .

”Due to the pandemic year, many things are strained. So, we usually have a very big back to school initiative that we were unable to do, and also during resurrection season, Easter, there were things that we would do that we could not do. So, we coupled those outreach initiatives into this one and one of our core convictions of our church is that we are influential transformers of lives and communities. So, this is a way for us to not just say that, but to express that,” said Hedgemon.

The drive-through food distribution at Freedom Rock Christian Fellowship Church will abide by contactless COVID-19 protocols.
