Local Meridian Group Asks For Removal of Confederate Monument

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

In Meridian, organizers with the "Dream Team of The South," the group behind the “Breathe Through Me” peace rally’s, presented the group's plan and initiative to promote unity and community development within the city at the city council work session.

The plan presented included campaigns, such as a mural campaign, a trust campaign, hoping to further develop the communities trust in local law enforcement.

The group is also requesting the removal of the Confederate monument in front of Lauderdale County Courthouse.

“The main thing is to get the ball rolling. Some people don’t do it, because they’re like ‘oh, what if I fail’ –no, the main thing is get the ball rolling, you don’t have all the answers, that’s why it’s important to connect with other people, that’s why we’re called Dream Team of The South. So, what I don’t know, you would know, or somebody would know. So, the main thing is to get the ball rolling and I tell you, that’s what we’re doing, that’s exactly what we’re doing," said N’spire Walker, organizer of Dream Team of The South.

The Meridian City Council has agreed to write a resolution for the "Dream Team of The South" to present to the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors, asking for the removal of the Confederate monument in front of the Lauderdale County Courthouse.
